5 - Rex A & B - Sewing The Belt Loops - Construction
I’ll be demonstrating using Rex A, the ankle pant. The straight and ankle pant are the same in the waist, zipper, and upper thigh. The ankle tapers slightly as it grades towards the ankle. The cuff is added as a design element, but can be omitted if a slimmer pant is preferred.
B, the straight pant has the same construction methods, but includes a regular hem to finish.
BELT LOOPS:
My muslin is a light to medium weight, and once folded becomes very stable. Test your fabric, if you feel it needs more stability add a very lightweight fusible to one side lengthways.
Press your belt loop section in half lengthways.
Fold both edges into the middle, and press.
Fold in half again, and press well.
Stitch to hold. I have run them on one side here, but on my finished linen pants I added a stitch detail to both sides.
Measure the length of your finished loops, and divide by 5.
Cut the five pieces.
Pin two of the belt loops to the fronts, just inside of the darts towards the center.
And three on the back, center the back on on the seam, and evenly place the last two away from the dart seam.
Sew the loops inside of the seam allowance, going back and forth to secure them.
