The Boheme Fit and Flare Sleeves - The Petal Sleeve

The petal sleeve is two pieces - 20 and 21

There are two options, cut 4 pieces of your fashion fabric or cut 2 of your fabric and 2 of lining.

It is not necessary to finish the edges, they will all be encased.

To begin, mark the seam allowance of 5/8โ€ from the edge of each piece as shown.

Pin the two pieces together - 20 to 20 and 21 to 21

Sew using a 5/8โ€ seam allowance stopping at the edge where marked. Back stitch here as pulling your sleeve through can create stress on the seam.

Trim your seam allowance down. Leave the full seam allowance on the edges.

Turn your pieces right side out, and press well.

Match the notch on both, to overlay them. 21 is the upper piece.

Pin well and add two rows of basting stitches. Technically this sleeve does not need to be gathered to fit, but if adjustments to the bodice have been made and some easing is required, itโ€™s dual purpose now makes life easier.

To close the edges, lay one side on top of the other side.

Sew the middle two seams using a 5/8โ€ seam allowance. The two outer seams remain free.

Trim the seam allowance down

Fold your upper seam over itself to encase the raw edge and pin in place.

Repeat for the under seam.

Sew close to the edge catching both seams.

Press well.
