6 - The Dauphine Short - Construction / Back

To begin:

The upper back is in two sections, for shaping. Pieces 4 and 5 are sewn together, on both the left and right side.

If you are adding the back pockets, cut two two of piece 9, the seam allowance around the edges is 5/8โ€ and the top is a 1โ€ fold down.

Fold the 1โ€ seam allowance down, and top stitch. Pin the sides, within the guidelines.

Next up, join piece 6 to the upper back sections on both left and right sides.

Press the seams well.

To join the back to the front - pin the side seams and the inside seam together. Right side to right side. I use the lower piece seams as a match point.

This next step is a little counter intuitive.

Iโ€™ve replicated it again, in the lining section, and I think itโ€™s a little clearer to see if this is confusing!

Take one leg and turn it inside out, then place it inside the opposite leg, so you have one โ€œlegโ€ right side to right side.

Pin around the entire crotch area, starting from your previous seam under the zipper.

Sew the entire seam at 5/8โ€. Press open, snipping if necessary to release curved areas.

This is the fun bit! Pull the inside leg out, the right side should now be facing out - and press well.
